Interview with Willie Dell Davis IV

What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The idea of being able to accomplish something. The military had a commercial that once said, "We do more before 9 o'clock than most people do all day," That did something to me. That pushed me to make every moment that I get out of bed mean something. My music and my wrotong is a gift and not meant to be squandered so to make them mean something means that I have to get up, get out and get grinding. Life and living is an inspiration!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
If I'm not writing, I'm either working my day job or in the studio working on music or trying to come up with a new concept for a video, I'm always doinfg something. Sitting still is a hard thing for me to do. We never know how much time that we have left here, so I'm trying to make every move count.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Just searching online for something that catches my attention really.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes I do. It was actually about UFOs. I had tons of information and documents, etc. I would have had it published but it was lost when my Grandmother's basement flooded and I never got back into it after that.
What is your writing process?
I just think of something to write about, clear my mind and let my imagination create scens and scenarios that tell a story. I write the ideas on either paper or on my phone so that I don't lose them and them format them so that make sense and tell the story that I want to tell.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The first book that I ever read was "Destruction of the Black Civilation"/ It was my father's book but after that, I got into Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein etc. My Dad was a big pro-Black and science fiction guy so I guess it rubbed off on me.
How do you approach cover design?
Same way as writing. I create an idea in my mind, sometimes, I may see something that makes me want to recreate it and I think of how to place it on a cover. THis book was completely my design. I found a friend of a friend who allowed me to use her picture and I used mine.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
The Number of the Beast by Robert Heinlien
The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury
The Autobiography of Malcolm X
Starship Troopers\and the Outsiders

I love action and intrigue and anything that stimulates my mind.
What do you read for pleasure?
That all depends on my mindstate. Right now, I'm reading and teaching my Programmable Logic Controllers for something to do. Do it varies.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My Kindle Fire
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Word of mouth and the internet!
