Interview with Oumar Hill

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Washington DC and Greenwood, South Carolina. Each area had a different effect on my thoughts and writing: Washington DC gave me a little edgy side of writing, kind of straight to the point and South Carolina gave me the ability to become more emotional and patient with my writings and directions to lead others. Both areas have given me a balance to write anything.
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing when I was ten years old. I totally hated the process but loved the outcome and it made me think with purpose and develop a thorough understanding of the content up for discussion.
What do you read for pleasure?
Yes, I try to read at least six books per months. The more I read the broader my creativity and writing skills. I appreciate the nature of being a writer and author. It gives me pleasure to dive into the mind of other authors and enjoy their journey through their words. Reading has increased my self-education tremendously.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Mastering You Craft is all about teaching people how to master their actions, thoughts and goal. Giving the reader a blueprint on how to become personally successful within. It is full of step by step actions needed to follow dreams and make turn them into reality.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
In my spare time I volunteered to coach and motivate troubled youth in the Washington DC area and after a game or banquet a parent congratulated me and asked if I would speak at her church. I did, and the event was a success. Then the pastor of the church approached me and asked me who was I? At that moment, I realized I needed to document my thoughts and beliefs so people understand who I am and what I believe.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy for writing for me is having the ability to change lives and help people all around the world become better people.
What do your fans mean to you?
The fans mean the world to me, for without the fans I am nothing. I get so much inspiration from the fans and their positive reactions to my speeches and books. Fans are the best and I am forever in debt to them for supporting me. Simply love all fans!
What are you working on next?
Working on completing a book title "The Passion With-in" (Release Date Feb 15) and "How to love yourself 1st in 14 days" (Release Date March 15)
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My family and having the ability to breathe give me the strength to wake up and enjoy the simple pleasures of life. I don't take for granted the blessings I have to become an author and I share my story of overcoming with all the kids I interact with. On bad days, I enjoy waking up, because I know there is someone who needs my services.
Describe your desk
My desk has several books, multiple papers, pens and pencils scattered all over it. I call it organized chaos and I am the only one who knows how to find anything on my desk.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Reading and mentoring others. I would be providing a motivational speech to people all over the world about the topics discussed in my book.
