I wanted to have full control over the whole process - I like the feeling of hitting "upload" and... bingo! My book is live!
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I am so grateful to Smashwords for providing such a fantastic platform and distribution channel for independent authors. Never in a million years would I have imagined for my book to be listed on Barnes and Noble.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Writing is my lifeblood! I think, therefore I write. I feel very comfortable putting my thoughts on paper. Writing is also a great exercise in discipline. It's also great to share information and knowledge.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I have an urge to write - and the best thing about it is that I can still wear my pyjamas to write! There's something magic about the early hours in the morning - you feel rested and creative, and ideas literally pop into your head.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I need a lot of intellectual stimulation because I have a short attention span (meditation helps, though). I like the opera, theatre, the cinema and live music. I will grab any opportunity to listen to some classical music in any of the wonderful venues London has to offer.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Sometimes ebooks pop up as recommendations, and sometimes I read other authors' ebooks after a conversation on twitter.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, I was in primary school and I wrote a short novel about my imaginary adventures around the world.
What is your writing process?
Wear pyjamas, drink coffee, switch laptop on, write.
How do you approach cover design?
I love taking pictures. I know, I know, I am supposed to delegate that task to a professional. I just can't help taking endless pictures, editing them, laying some text over and pretending I am a designer.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have an iPad and have downloaded a couple of e-reader apps.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I would say twitter has been the best platform to gain more visibility.
