Interview with D. E. Park

Who are your favorite authors?
Heinlein, Asimov, Poul, Niven, Pournelle. Dickson, Harrison, Saberhagen et. al,--the old masters
Humorists like Doug Adams, Terry Pratchett, John DeChancie, Christopher Moore.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Caffeine.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Toiling away at a Joe-Job. Sometimes creating some graphical oddities. Reading, boobtoob, assorted other distractions.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Generally, by exhausting the works of authors I've picked up through random chance. "I like this guy, what else has he written?" Which leads to the (often frustrating) hunt for the next guy I like.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Oh sure.---Well, maybe not.
I remember the first story I wrote in recent times. Back to high school, or even earlier? No chance.
What is your writing process?
Anything that gets my butt in the chair and the ball accelerating downhill.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Grimm's Fairy Tales (I think). Maybe Hans Christian Andersen.
Followed by Bullfinch's Mythology and other fairy tale books.
Three Musketeers. Scarlet Pimpernel. Robinson Crusoe. Treasure Island. As a pre-teen I was action-adventure man.
As a YA...Ringworld was probably the first novel that "had an impact on me". I still have it, over there on my bookshelf.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Ringworld--Larry Niven.
Silverlock--John Myers Myers
The Once and Future King--T. H. White
Dorsai--Gordon Dickson
The Moon is a Harsh Mistress--Robert Heinlein (maybe Stranger or Time Enough...never could pick just one)

If you've read any of these books, you already know why. If you haven't...shame on you! Go! Go now!
What do you read for pleasure?
SF. Light fantasy. Humorous <anything>.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
What's marketing, Precious?
What's the story behind your latest book?
Barely controlled chaos, it is what I thrive at.
