Interview with Steve Hughes

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I volunteer as a wilderness patrol ranger at Mount Rainier. It's a great way to stay connected to God's creation and serve the visitors in the park. I enjoy cycling, leading a church small group and hanging out with my young grandson!
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I began paraphrasing Jesus stories from the Bible years ago. It's always a great learning experience to write them out and then repeat them verbally later with a friend.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
In college I read the true story of a young man struggling with life who decided to walk across America. He rediscovered himself, found a faith in Jesus, and experienced mostly the good of people across this nation. The book is A Walk Across America. It highlighted to me the importance of one's journey in life and how the people and experiences along that path impact our relationship with God and others.
