Interview with Paul Anthony

What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I have just begun and currently will be leveraging all the social web marketing opportunities as well as Google AdWords. So keep tuned in and when I am ready to release the first novel "Ecstasy at Dawn", in 2014, I hope to have some experience by doing it for "After Fifty". So this first book is a pilot in many ways. :-)
Describe your desk
I work on a two folding tables, in an L shape, that is covered with black felt cloth, covered with a combination of glass and some cool ceramic tiles used for floors to give it some warmth. Surrounded by a few computers and a server, I have a "wall of fame" with some art done by family members, few diplomas, some band memorabilia and pictures of my five (5) children and Randi, my loving wife. :-)
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
Grew up in the US, still growing and have been writing songs, papers, presentations, white papers, and now sharpening my pencil for my first novel. My writing is influenced by my imagination, nothing more.
When did you first start writing?
When in college I became interested in writing songs, it was fun to play at parties and the local coffee shop, songs that you wrote and to have someone enjoy the song. This gave me the writing bug.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Me. LOL It was my first time and like a virgin, did not know what to expect. Once I started, I couldn't stop, it reminded me of how I felt when performing on stage, I would go into a state of mind that time stopped while my mind would start re-living in vivid details of my past and human experience. After four or five pages, of heads down writing, I would come up for air, refreshed and filled with loving thoughts of my beautiful family. Once I discovered that all it took was to have a place to write, some paper and a pen, magic begins, the less you think about it the more the words come, and on and on ......
What motivated you to become an indie author?
An author? Maybe; the way I see it, I am just sharing some thoughts, experiences, and love to those who happen upon my book, I don't take it very serious, the "Author" title, I am just Paul, son of Daniel who was son of Joseph who was son of Aton.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords, is providing a platform for those of us who have something to say and need an easy way to distribute that information. There are many other sites and ways do this, Smashwords is on this journey with me and together we will continue to help each other do what we love to do. Make our world a better place for our children.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Being able to share nuggets of wisdom gleamed from the Universal mind. When starting to write my first novel I really enjoyed role playing, meeting people that I would insert into my novel as some cameo character, or maybe even one of the leads. Writing lets you live all the lives of your characters, feel what they feel, even experience what they experience so that when writing about the activity it has more depth and details. Writing is like dreaming but you are awake to record what is happening during that day-dream.
What do your fans mean to you?
I don't have any fans, at least when I come in the room there are no screaming teenagers, but I do get a bunch of smiles and happy faces. If a fan is a friend, then they mean the world to me.
What are you working on next?
My next book is a novel, fiction wrapped around fact, interwoven with some of my hair-brained ideas, one of my songs "Good ol Mountain High", and several characters that mirror different people that I have met over the years. The book has three main characters, Kudzu, a vine that grows over anything and everywhere that introduces the magic receipt, a young girl who represents innocence, and the time of day called dawn, that early morn when the sun is just rising to unveil the mystery of the night, representing new beginnings and hope. My newest project, "Ecstasy at Dawn", takes the reader into the lives and lands of my past, so reading it you become closer to me and my "fans".
Who are your favorite authors?
I have no favorite anything, everyone and everything is equal in my eyes. One little trick I learned was that if all you do is assume love from everyone and only convey love, then the rest takes care of its self. So everyone has something to say or add, so why pick favorites? :-)
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I do not like to lie in bed, don't need any inspiration, once my eyes open I am out and about.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Playing music, folf (disk golf), baby sitting a large bank's applications (from home), I really don't get out much, sort of the "empty nest" routine, since there are no basketball games, wrestling matches, this and that for the kids, Randi and I now just chill at home. :-)

Reading the thoughts that poured from my head to my paper, nothing planed, nothing thought out, just let it roll out, even published the book after just spell checking, what you read is what came out. LOL :-) Enjoy Paul Anthony Note: I will be publishing my first novel in a few months, so this first book is to get to know the author and my newest book will be my first artistic work.
