Interview with Pennie Mae Cartawick

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up the the industrial city of Sheffield. It's located in the heart of South Yorkshire, England. It is also where they make and distribute Sheffield Steel (silverware).
Sherlock Holmes was a great influence to me. Of course, my favorite Holmes was always Basil Rathbone from the early 1940's. The fog, the mystery, all things good came from watching his movies setting the style and new stories to life.
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing in my early 20's. I moved to London where my profession was Beauty Therapy and after a couple of years in the trade, I decided to start writing a health and beauty book that I eventually decided to publish when emigrating to Florida. It is called 'Choosing the Right Diet for Success'. I published several diet, detox books after that before moving in to the murder/mystery agenda.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I have always loved to write and no matter what I do in life, I always find time for new stories and creations along my path.
Who are your favorite authors?
I love Stephen King and have read all his books which mostly seem a lot better with detail than his movies. Horror is a genre that I love to read. I have wrote a couple of short stories with the supernatural called 'Ghost Stories' featuring 'Silence be Damned' and 'The Exchange', not sure how good they are but I loved writing them and I also drew the color illustrations throughout.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not brainstorming and writing, I love to eat at my favorite restaurant here in town. I am very much a home body though and curling up with a good book is my thing, or watching a good horror flick.
How do you approach cover design?
Approaching a cover design is pretty easy I think when it comes to an author. A story is always fresh in our minds after we finish putting it on paper. After that (and during) many thoughts for cover designs are rampant throughout our thoughts that can capture what a book is about.
