Interview with Phil Morgan

Published 2014-10-05.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Wales in a little village called Ton-Teg. Was a great place and a great time to grow up. Everything was changing so fast. As for my writing, well, the book Ive done tells you all about my life. There was so much to go in. Ive left a lot of things out for now because I think if I included everything in there I would still be writing it now.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Opening my mind. Remembering things that I had locked up in the back of my mind. Everyday I was writing I was smiling. It was always fun to remember those things I had forgot about. Everyone should give it a go.
What are you working on next?
A second draft. A few people have asked me why certain things have been left out. I didnt put everything in there due to the time I had allowed myself. But Im re-writing bits of the book and putting in a lot more stuff. Its fun.
Who are your favorite authors?
Ooooh. good one.Edgar Alan Poe, Orson Scott Card, Tolkien, Steve Perry, David Eddings.................. how much space have I got on here?
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Money..................... thats it really.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Reading, writing, working, cooking (I love cooking) spending time with my wife and kids and anything that makes me happy (apart from work, come on who likes work)
Describe your desk
A mess. Too much paperwork stuff I havnt put away. CDs, notepads, pens... Basically everything I dont use..... It drives my wife crazy.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
It was a descriptive essay in school. We had to write about something as seen through the eyes of someone or something else. While everyone did stories about their mum going to the shops or their dog chasing after a ball, mine was about a torture chamber and dungeon through the eyes of the torturer. I had a few funny looks from the teacher when I handed that in I can tell you.
What is your writing process?
Sit down with my laptop and type. I type whatever comes into my head. Then I have to re-read it later because most of it dosnt make sense.
What do your fans mean to you?
Fans............. I got fans........... cool.
