Interview with Phil Olson

Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The first real story I ever read was The Client by John Grisham. It's the book that got me hooked on reading. Stephen King books are what made me want to write.
What do you read for pleasure?
I like to read anything by Stephen King, John Grisham, or John Jakes for pleasure. They are all great story tellers.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I prefer just to use my Lenovo tablet to read from.
Describe your desk
Cluttered with my late night snacks, my caffeinated beverage, and my ideas.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in several places in the same area of the country, Iowa and Nebraska. I'm not sure it influenced my writing per say but being a slowed down part of the country it gave me plenty of time to think and reflect on my ideas.
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing but music rather than books back in 2000. Then I focused on essays and informational writing. Finally I decided to start writing books.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book is tentatively called The Spread. Although I'm still in the very early stages it is going to be a virus/zombie type of book.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I'd like to get feedback on my newest writings so I can continue to improve and becoming an Indie author gives me the best opportunity to do that.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy I gain from writing is getting the idea from my head to the keyboard or paper or whatever I'm writing on that day. I just love to see the story play out in my head and come to fruition in front of me.
What do your fans mean to you?
Every fan I have is important to me because each one can give a unique perspective on the story as they read it.
What are you working on next?
I am working on two things at the moment one is The Spread novel but I am also working on putting together a collection of flash fiction stories. I would love to publish it one day.
