Interview with Paolo M.

What is your writing process?
It is a live performance. I'm not able to plan events and details: it feels like betraying life.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I don't, honestly.
How do you approach cover design?
Suggestions from the story play their part - for the rest, I choose one of my shots and create a cover design that I like. It does not matter much if it works, but I have to like it. It is me anyway, so I don't decide with marketing on my mind. It must be true.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Too many to quote. Henry Miller's Tropics, Erica Jong's fear of Flying and poetry, Pablo Neruda's Collections, Anais nin's works, Almudena Grandes' and so many others. Really too many to quote.
What do you read for pleasure?
It depends on the period and mood. Fiction and poetry. But then also magazines, blogs and such.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I don't have any. I like paper.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
If I have to judge from the results, I'd say I should choose one and use it, he he.
Describe your desk
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
A little town on the Italian coast. No sense for beauty, no respect for public spaces, and kind of suicidal exuberance coming from spiritual illiteracy. Money and just making money. The worst kind of ambiance. Perfect for a writer though: you can't see the time to sit and bomb this human misery with words.
When did you first start writing?
I was a child. I wanted to write a work on dogs. It wrecked some miles off the coast of the first page.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The latest published book is a collection of erotiporn stories - erotica for her pleasure. The stories have women as protagonists and vivid sexual events that challenge them to push the boundaries.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I write. Agents and publishers consider themselves an Olympus or a Heaven - but I don't believe in any God(s). I write for humans, not for fake divinities.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I'm not successful. Just some copies sold, but I like the open-minded audience here, people with a passion. I like it here.

Edizione riveduta e corretta.
