Interview with Andrea Chancey

Published 2018-09-17.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Yes, I do remember the first story I ever read, but sadly I don't remember the name of it. What I do remember was that it had to do with the Holocaust. Like my book it was a book of stories from the survivors and what they did to survive. Some of the stories were so graphic that I couldn't imagine going through what they went through. The one story that stuck with me the most was a man who drank his own urine to survive. It was this book that made me want to change people's lives with what I wrote.
How do you approach cover design?
I approach cover design by rereading what I wrote. I try to pick the one thing that is the main idea of the story or stories. Then I pick a design that will draw an audience.
What do you read for pleasure?
Yes, I read for pleasure
Describe your desk
My desk is actually my kitchen table. On my kitchen table I have of course my computer, a box of slim jims, a coloring book, my cats, and sadly bills. The slim jims and the coloring books help me think.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
My dad was a Marine so I lived all over until my parents died 25 years ago. Moving all over influenced my writing because we lived in places like Braintree, Emerald Isle, Jacksonville, Since we lived in these places my parents made sure to take me to all the historical places. By going to historical places like St. Augustine, Beaufort, and Salem it open my imagination to so many ideas. I even liked the ghost stories.
When did you first start writing?
Oh my, I think I got a taste of it in the fifth grade when I had to take a poetry class. However, it wasn't unit my parents died that I really started writing.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The story behind my latest book is about my service dog. She is a rescue that has had a rough life. I would like people to realize that some dogs are not aggressive and just overly protective. Service dogs do not get the respect they deserve and I hope this book helps.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
What motivated me to become an indie author is all the knowledge I think I can share with people. Being disabled I think and hope I can open my audience to a different world.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I discover the ebooks I read by watching TV, keeping up with my favorite authors, and what my friends suggest
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
