Interview with P.J. Goldsilk

When did you first start writing?
I've always been writing ever since I could remember. I always wrote in my online journals. However, I never started writing stories until this past year. I was only ranting at the time previously before that but when people told me I could turn my situations into books, that's when I started to become interested in writing stories.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I have always longed for someone far away who I thought I would never be able to get to meet. I always thought I had to force myself to like someone else because he was just too far away. I started talking to this guy online since we were children. We met in an AOL/AIM chat room. I was 13 and he was 14. He lived 10 hours away from me, then moved to the other side of the states and I thought it was over. It's only the beginning. When we met in person for the first time as young adults, I knew it would be a really awesome time!
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I spend a lot of time writing as it is 40 hours a week. This is my version of therapy and it actually works if you put your mind to it. With all the time I spend writing for free, I would like to see if I can get something out of it so I have polished up my ranting and raving blog entries and turned them into stories.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
It is a good platform to publish short things for free and I gained a couple of subscribers that way. However, now I am getting serious about publishing paid works.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I get to write what I want. I am in luck that what I want to write about are stories people would like to read. Writing is my fun hobby. I do not want to treat this like a job I need, otherwise I will be miserable.
What do your fans mean to you?
I always like to chat with encouraging readers who have real criticism. I like to see the kinds of things they like to read about and if they enjoy my stories. It's always a plus when my readers can relate to my stories.
What are you working on next?
I will be working on a sequel to my first novel.
Who are your favorite authors?
J.K. Rowling
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I need the money to pay the bills, ha.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Sometimes I'll go on celebrity gossip forums, but those days are over now. I'm using my time wisely to better my skill sets.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I google the categories I am interested in reading.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I don't think so.
What is your writing process?
I don't have a writing process. I guess I'll blog about whatever is on my mind and if I like what my blog's about, I'll use that for story ideas.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
No, I don't remember the first story I ever read.
How do you approach cover design?
I would like to use my own photography images, but I do see what they have on the Web that relates to my stories.
