Interview with Carol Plunkett

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in South Wales, the middle child in a family of six children. I wrote from an early age and winning prizes at primary school for stories and poems encouraged me to keep writing!
When did you first start writing?
At age four. We had St David's Day competitions in my school and my parents were so proud when I won.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans are people who get something from my poetry and share with me how a certain line or verse has helped them. Their comments inspire me to keep ruminating and writing.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I love it when a big question I have been grappling with crystallises into a pithy poem that takes me to the next level. I enjoy the rhythms and lyrical beauty of poetry
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love to paint, especially birds and I enjoy walking with my husband, who takes wonderful photographs that I use as inspiration for my paintings.
