Interview with Trish Young

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Writing helps take away the stress of the day. It lets me pour it all out into word painted pictures, rather than keeping it all in.
What are you working on next?
I am going to start working on a book about being mis-diagnosed for several years...and how it has impacted my life, and those around me.
Who are your favorite authors?
I don't really have a favorite author, only a favorite author type. My favorite author type is one that shows bits of their inner selves in their writing, whether it is intentional or not.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My husband and my children. They are my every reason for everything.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
We have five children, five ducks, two cats and one beagle. My time is well spent tending to the family and trying to appreciate every moment of it.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I remember writing a story when I was in third grade. It was called Willeta, it was about a beached whale that me and my friends rallied together to save. I might mention it wasn't very original as "Free Willy" was very popular at that time.
What is your writing process?
I just start writing. Whatever comes out comes out and I find a place for it. There are times I try to structure what I am writing but it rarely manifests good works.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I remember reading "Charlotte's Web", although I don't thin it was the first story I ever read, it is the first story that I remember inspiring me to want to write.
How do you approach cover design?
I dabble in graphic design, and normally would make my own covers, but I don't have the software at the moment so I have been using a free cover designing site online...because, it is right in my price range.
What do you read for pleasure?
Usually fantasy mystery type books.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have an android tablet that I use to read on. It is an older one that has a touch screen but requires a stylus. I like it for reading because the screen isn't so sensitive to the touch.
Describe your desk
It is very small and black, it was a twenty dollar investment from walmart. Sad...I know.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a small town, Rosiclare, Il. It molded me, I was raised to have manners and to put others first. I grew up in a rural area out in the country. My neighbors were family and I always felt safe. I think writing was a way to get away from the mundane day to day of rural living.
When did you first start writing?
Probably when I was about ten or eleven years old.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
A teacher I had in high school. She was very encouraging. Very insightful and very unwilling to accept less than the best.
