Interview with Catherine Crumber

When did you say to yourself, ”I am a writer”?
I realized I am a writer when I started journaling my thoughts regarding stories I thought would be interesting to others. Soon my thoughts turned into outlines and my outlines turned into stories.
What inspires the conception of your main characters?
Our lives are woven with multiple threads of experiences that include others. I can see complete stranger moving along in their day for a few minutes and then they are gone. In those brief moments, I marry a few of what I perceive to be their characteristics to my ideas and develop characters.
Who are your favorite authors?
Toni Morrison
Why did you decide to self publish your writings?
I decided to self publish when I read a contract offered from a publishing house. In addition, I also did some research regarding the experiences of well known authors who are under contract. I decided that was not the route for me at that time I published The Love of You, a Novel.
How do you approach cover design?
I designed my own covers! - Risky but cost saving effective and practice makes perfect!
What message do all your books have in common?
The love and power of God to heal and restore any situation we give him.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book is "Meet the Royals" - War has no fury like two women fighting for one crown. It is a fiction novel and the story takes place in the Bahamas during the 1940's. You can read the 1st chapter here: http://bit.ly/BlackRoyals. You can pre-order Meet the Royals 11.27.15 and it goes on sale 12.15.15. Follow #MeetRoyals on all social media platforms for updates and exclusives.
Do you see your books becoming films?
Yes! - I do see some of my fiction work becoming movies.
If you were to write a book about your life, what would be the title?
There are so many titles I could choose from at the moment. One thing is for sure. I will write that book in my old age. There are some chapters that have yet to be discovered which will more than likely influence my decision.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The first teen novel I read was "Are you there God? It's me, Margret" and my mom introduced me to "The Song of Solomon" by Toni Morrison (my first adult novel). She is a avid reader. In fact, she taught me to read before I entered school.
What do you think readers will take away from your latest project?
I want readers to take away the courage and strength to grasp for victory over life's trials and tribulations with God as the source.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords allowed me to upload and sell my books without any upfront fees. - I've search and cannot find anyone else with that offer. - It made it very easy for me to generate income from my craft.
