Interview with Morgan Bell

What motivated you to become an indie author?
It's very punk rock and experimental, you gain a bunch of skills and knowledge by trying everything yourself, and your content doesn't get censored or sanitised to be more sanitised or more conformist
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Australia, my family moved house a lot so I lived all over the place and had to routinely start new schools and make new friends. So my curse and my skill is that I read faces and people-watch. It is a cause of much anxiety and paranoia, but it is also great material for stories.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I am a crazy cat lady, a YouTube addict, and sometimes an engineer
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Goodreads giveaways, Twitter, cross-promotion, and sincerely thanking people when they help
Describe your desk
I am completely mobile, I use a laptop computer and will set up on any flat surface, often dining tables
What are you working on next?
A speculative fiction novel that has long been neglected, it is called Daughters Of Mallory
What do you read for pleasure?
I like short stories, suspense, and speculative fiction
Who are your favorite authors?
Karen Joy Fowler, Charlotte Wood, Gillian Flynn, Angela Carter, Ursula LeGuin
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Kindle app for android
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Recommendations from booktubers, emails from Amazon about discount deals, general electronic word-of-mouth on Facebook and Twitter
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
First time caller, long time listener ... I had previously used Kindle Direct Publishing but like to try a range of resources, the instant publishing was appealing this time around as I was running to a deadline, KDP has a wait on approvals
