Interview with Rachael Snead

Describe your desk.
I actually don't have one! I use a laptop for the typing and do nearly all of my marketing via phone.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Virginia Beach, Virginia. I have three younger siblings, so kids have always been a big part of my life. I have always been an avid reader and I love to write, so my close friends and family were not surprised at all when I published my first book.
When did you first start writing?
I started keeping a journal in second or third grade! I don't really remember not writing. I was around 14 when I started writing poetry and stories and filing them in folders and, later, file cabinets.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
My husband and I recently adopted a child who is now in preschool. I struggled to find appropriate books about adoption for him. One day at Barnes and Noble, the cashier informed me that online and in store Barnes and Noble only carried three adoption books for preschoolers. None of them applied to our situation. The sympathetic cashier suggested that I write one of my own. The rest is history.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords put me in front of Barnes and Noble which was a big goal for me.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
My greatest joy is the thought that somewhere in the world, something I did is making someone happy.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans mean the world to me!
What are you working on next?
I'm working on a book about a very unique bunny who saves the day.
Who are your favorite authors?
I love C.S. Lewis' work. J.R. Tolkien is another favorite author.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My inspiration comes to me in the form of my beautiful son and my amazing husband! My fans also inspire me. I'm always thinking, 'What can I do next to surprise them?".
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not writing, I'm reading! Oftentimes I'm reading to my son.
