Interview with Rachel Lenna

What is your e-reading device of choice?
I absolutely love my iPad. I would be lost without him - yes its a him!
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
As i am only just now starting to market my books I am not sure yet. Ask me in six months :)
Describe your desk
Neat for about five minutes - till i sit back at it again then its cluttered!
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Sydney Australia. Where I grew up hasn't influenced my writing as much as HOW i grew up did. I am learning things about myself and my childhood every day that make me realise this is really what I want to do...
When did you first start writing?
At age twelve, the rest of the family would be watching tv and I would be creating movies on paper (the computer). Most of the time they were only short stories and from age fourteen through to twenty i wrote A LOT of poems. It's only in the last year that I have really tried again and discovered I still love it and wish I didn't have to stop.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I would love to say it just sprung to mind one day but no, it was a little bit of Twilight thrown in with fantasies I'm sure almost every girl has about being that one girl the super hot guy just can't live without - even if he is a little bit special...

I saw a couple of movies and read a couple of books and I just wanted to write so I did and thus 'Infinite Fate' was born...
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I was writing all these stories, just for myself because it was what I loved when it was suggested to me I publish them. I didnt know where or how to start so I researched the internet and found Smashwords. I realised I really could do it on my own after seeing how easy it was (minus the formatting and what not :P). I figured if I'm meant to become a professional author it would happen no matter where I start. And Smashwords seemed like THE place to be.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Well thousands more people have read my book then otherwise would have if i hadn't published here, so I would say it's contributed a lot.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Being able to imagine all these great things and then share them with others. Sometimes I wish that what was in my head would become real, so writing it down makes it real!
What do your fans mean to you?
Absolutely everything. Without them I would still be writing stories for myself. Without them my hopes and dreams of becoming a professional writer are gone! So I thank them!
What are you working on next?
Currently have a few books I am working on, I chop and change depending on my mood and whether or not I want 'real' pretend or 'pretend' pretend.
"Over the Weekend" which is book two of the Moonlight Fall's series is near completeion and will be published late May.
I have only just started "Destiny Awaits..." but she's calling to me and its going to be instense...
The third book is so brand new it doesnt even have a title but the main character? She's fiesty and full of attitude so hopefully will come to life on her own!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
With my family and my 101 pets. I'm a sucker for the sick, injured and strayed so people are always bringing animals to me. i just recently scored two rats, and one was so big he looked more possum then rat!
Absolutely love being with my family and singing and reading and really just going with the flow and enjoying life.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Usually via Apple's iBookstore. My iPad and I? We go way back.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. I was twelve and it was about the nobody girl getting the hot high school guy. so cliche and so done over and over again but as a twelve year old it was good therapy.
What is your writing process?
Write. Jot down important notes as I go. Write. More notes. Finish. Do not read it for a week. Proof read it twice and fix any errors. Dont read it for two days. Read again. then publish. Sounds complicated but it's not. Especially when you love it.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
It's not the first story but it was one i wore the book out on as a child. It was about this girl who fell in lvoe with a borrowed horse and would do anything to keep him.
