Interview with S.D. Higgins

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes I do. In grade school I was a fan of Encyclopedia Brown and the Clue book series that had the reader solve the mystery. Fourth and fifth grade I would often spend the majority of the time I was supposed to be learning writing similar stories and passing them to my friends to see if I could stump them.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
At the risk of sounding cliche I have to say my family. Writing is a need that I just can't do without but if it weren't for my incredible family I doubt I'd make it to my computer or notebook to get anything accomplished. Of course, there are still days when I'm grateful that laptops and notebooks are portable.
Describe your desk
A cluttered disaster. Einstein is credited for saying that a messy desk is the sign of a genius. I don't even try to claim that. I say a messy desk is the sign of someone who's writing too hard to care.
Who are your favorite authors?
This is difficult to answer. I have affairs with many great authors across all realms of the writing world. I hold true to this day that it was Orson Scott Card who first taught me to write science fiction when I was very young. As a superhero fanatic I have to say Stan Lee and Joss Whedon are two of my favorite story tellers. R.S. Belcher is a good friend and he has become a great inspiration. And finally I wouldn't feel right if I didn't give a nod to J.R.R. Tolkien and Stephen King who have expanded my imagination beyond normal limits.
If you were stranded on a desert island with only one type of food, what would it be?
Anyone who knows me can probably guess the answer to this question. Assuming there was no chance at rescue, I would gladly stuff myself with nothing but prime rib until I burst.
