Interview with Raven Williams

What are you working on next?
Having just finished up Elwyndyn, I am now working on the second book in the Realm Jumper series, Elf-Witch where we will learn more about Valael
Who are your favorite authors?
I have a long list of favorite authors. My must read is definitely Christine Feehan's Dark series. I could totally get lost in the Carpathian world and never return! I also love Victoria Danaan, Kym Grosso, Maggie Shayne, Alexia Purdy, Lavinia Urban, just to name a few.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Life. Life is meant to be lived and experienced. Following that, writing and music.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I read a lot. I also paint abstract paintings and create fractal art. Of course, I do all of this around caring for a disabled family member.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Through my many author friends on Facebook. As for the Dark series, I stumbled across a paperback in my local store and was hooked. It was then just a matter of getting each book in ebook format.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Elwyndyn is my first fictional story. Prior to that, I have written several non-fiction books of a spiritual nature and a couple of poetry books. I self-published my first book in 2013.
What is your writing process?
I just listen to the voices in my head and write. It is basically go with the flow. I have some idea how I want to start the book and how I want to end it. Then, I just sit down and write.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I have been reading since I first learned how in school. That was many, many years ago. So, no, I don't remember the first story I ever read. I just love to read and get lost in the worlds the author's create.
How do you approach cover design?
I use a lot of the fractal designs I have created. The cover of Elwyndyn is one of my fractal designs I call Portal. For those who read the story, they will understand the title of the fractal art.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
My absolute favorite are the Dark series, by Christine Feehan, of which there are 26 books currently written. I can't pick favorites out of the 26 as I love them all! I can't wait until September when the next Dark book will be released!
What do you read for pleasure?
It depends on my mood. I love fantasy, paranormal romance, sci-fi, and non-fiction metaphysics.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have a Kindle.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Sharing on social media is how I have reached most of my readers.
Describe your desk
Small and very organized. Everything has a place and must be in said place before I can even begin work.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Indiana, USA. It really doesn't influence my writing much. What influences me are the stories I read in books and see in movies and television shows. They are what get the creative juices flowing and the voices talking.
