Interview with R.D. Wylder

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I don't think there's just one. To be honest, I love the process of creation...of having an idea and seeing it come to life on the page, or screen. But I also love knowing that people out there are reading what I've written and enjoying it. Writing may be a catharsis for me but it's nice knowing that I can touch others as well.
What are you working on next?
So many things. I have about ten short story ideas floating around my head at any given time, and there are also my websites to work on.
Who are your favorite authors?
I have a deep love of classic horror stories and mysteries so I tend towards authors such as Edgar Allan Poe and Agatha Christie. Two more contemporary books which I like are The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova and The Alienist by Caleb Carr.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My 'kids'. I don't have children of my own, but my nieces are the next best thing. It's important to me to show them that it's never too late to go after your dreams.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I'm usually at work, or helping to take care of my nieces, but if I do get some free time I'm usually reading. Or gaming. I have a bit of a gaming addiction.
What is your writing process?
My writing process is completely haphazard and differs from story to story. I may suddenly get an image in my head and a story springs from there. Or I may start at the middle and work backwards. That's the beauty of writing short stories I think.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I'm one of those people who believes that there's no substitute for an actual, physical book, but I do own a Kindle.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing poetry around 14 or 15. I dabbled with short stories for a while but didn’t get into writing them seriously until I was in my early twenties.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything. If they didn't mean anything, I'd just write the stories and throw them in the garbage.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I am a voracious user of the internet so, while most of the ebooks I read are from favored authors, some I come across during my own searches for subject matter that interests me.
