Interview with R. Brooks

What do you read for pleasure?
I read everything! History, science fiction, etc.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have a Kindle for now, but have dreams of a new tablet.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew in the South reading classic adventure stories, such as The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, White Fang, and Travels With Charlie.
What's the story behind your latest book?
We were inspired by a Christmas tree that we purchased last year. It was in sad shape from being mistreated by the retailer. However, it sparked our creativity to tell its story and the people who found it.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
We have wanted to publish a book for a very long time. Finally, we were successful through the kindness of another author who showed us how to use Smashwords.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Writing a book can be an intimidating process, but publishing seemed the hardest part. Now with Smashwords, we know how easy it can be to share cherished stories with other readers.
What do your fans mean to you?
We wrote the book to share the Christmas spirit with others. Both authors have had difficult holiday seasons, but we strongly believe that the best part of the human spirit is to never give up. We hope that our first Christmas book will bring families closer as they read throughout the season.
What are you working on next?
Our next book involves a K-9 police officer, and of course, we would enjoy writing another story about Dougie's adventures on the tree farm. We appreciate the opportunity to share our stories with readers.
Who are your favorite authors?
The list long but some absolute favorites include Mark Twain, Jack London, and John Steinbeck.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I not writing, I embrace my passion for cooking. I try not to confine myself to cooking a single cusine. I tend to be adventuresome experimenting with Indian, Thai, Mexican, etc.
