Interview with Ron Celano

What motivated you to become an indie author?
It was something I always wanted to do, but did not have time when I was working. When I retired, it took up hobbies like art, music and golf. Each one had a learning process. After buying several books and watching many videos, I thought I could do a better job. That was the beginning of becoming an indie author.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
The support is outstanding including tons of reference material.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
It is great therapy.
What do your fans mean to you?
Without fans there are no book sales. However, my goal has always been to teach or inform.
What are you working on next?
Just published "Choices." This is my first book on politics. It came about because I have a great concern for how Americans are loosing their freedom of choice in their everyday lives. The book contains many topics that discusses the reasons and how choices for Americans are being deliberately and systematically limited or is some cases taken away.
Who are your favorite authors?
No one in particular, but I like to read non-fiction books.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Being able to teach or impart some knowledge to help someone out.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I have other hobbies (besides working around the house) such as golf, guitar and art. Oh, and I spend a lot of time on the Internet.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I look for general words in titles or search for a certain type of book.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, I do. It was in junior high about a vacation trip I took with my parents.
What is your writing process?
I don't have a particular process. I just try to make sure everything flows nicely front to back.
How do you approach cover design?
I try to make it simple and to the point.
What do you read for pleasure?
Sometimes, but I read mostly to gain knowledge.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I read on a laptop or a Kindle.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Still struggling, but I post a lot on blogs and use social media.
Describe your desk
ha, ha....messy.
When did you first start writing?
When I retired in 2005.
