Interview with Darran Kenna

What motivated you to become an indie author?
Having discovered the importance of social media to new businesses, I created facebook ( ) and twitter accounts ( @resolveiom ) to highlight my work and my interests. This proved to be very successful and I rewarding both as a business resource and a way to meet new people and share ideas.
I soon discovered that my following went far beyond my physical geography and I gained almost as many followers and friends in USA, Australia & South Africa as well as a number of European countries than I had in the UK. Through the help and encouragement of some of these friends I started producing online courses for a number of different sites. After that the next step was to produce my work in print.
Seeing my name in print, has, however been such a thrill, and the fact that I am providing useful and helpful information is amazing.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
It is such a buzz to see my name attached to a written piece of work. But I must say (although it does sound a bit schmaltzy & sentimental) that I feel that the work that I have done in helping others to overcome problems and improve their self worth through some of the therapies and techniques I teach, still fills me with pride.
Then being able to spread this work beyond my physical capabilities, in the form of a printed book, just adds to the enjoyment I get from my work.
Writing has also been a great inspiration to my children, who have seen that there are outlets for publishing your work and are writing little stories now in the hope that they might come up with something the will be happy to print too.
What are you working on next?
I am keeping myself quite busy. My first book to be published through Smashwords is "The Cream Cake Diet" which should be finished by July 1st 2016.
I am also in the process of transferring two other books into Smashwords from Amazon. These previously published books show techniques, tricks and tips to learn the rules to help you learn faster and speak a foriegn language in days, The 1st Learn Spanish Quickly & Easily and the 2nd Learn German Quickly & Easily, should be available through Smashword soon.

I am currently writing the 3rd of these language books Learn French Quickly & Easily at the moment too.
Who are your favorite authors?
I have learnt a lot about the work I do from reading Tony Buzan and Milton Erickson as well as the work on NLP published by Richard Bandler & John Grinder. But have also learnt a lot about publishing from Steve McDonald who has become a bit of a mentor figure for me..
As far as reading for pleasure I have grown up reading Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams and Roald Dahl. And love everything by James Elroy.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
When I get up my main priority is to get the kids of to school and my wife off to work. After that, it is down to work either on my books & courses, or either to take courses at local schools or help clients in my therapy practice.

I then do a bit of house work and get ready for the kids to come home.

The work I do has allowed me to attend school events, assemblies and sport events. It has also allowed me to take a more active role in my kids hobbies and out of school activities. This for me, is a great chance that many fathers don't get and doing what I do and being my own boss has allowed this to happen.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your free time?
I spend a lot of time being "Taxi Dad" taking my children from one club or sport to another.

I enjoy watching most sports, but my life's passion however has been football (soccer to you in the US) I played at Semi-professional level and have taken a number of coaching badges so as to pass this on to some of the very talented kids on the Isle of Man. Although my son may not always be happy with me being his coach!

I support, just about equally, Manchester Utd as my home club and Barcelona, mostly as I have always been a huge fan of Johan Cruyff. Mostly I enjoy good football and skillful players.

I have always loved to travel and spent a lot of my younger years travelling around Europe and North Africa, but have also been to the US and South America.
