Interview with Richard Shekari

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes i do, it was back in 2007-2008 when i was in school. I'd normally write a short story and ask my friends what they think would happen next, once they tell me I'd twist the next chapter and change a lot of things in the story though keeping the story intact just to thrill them, i loved keeping them on the suspense level and it was fun. First book i ever wrote was titled 'The Trojan throne' and submitted it online without even having it edited. Haha!
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Ummm...first story i ever read wow, that is a nut cracker i really can't remember because i am actually not a reader. I am so impatient that when i sight a book i will quickly go to the end and see how the story ends then flip few pages in the middle and then back to the beginning, throw the book away. Same thing happens when i am watching a movie alone. Crazy i know, however it does save me from copying people's style and concept.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
1: The bible: It's a manual that comes with me, it's like someone bought me and gave me as a gift to myself and the box i came in had this manual with the word 'BIBLE' written on it. So anytime i malfunction or misbehave i will run and flip those sweet pages.
2:Purpose Driven Life - What On Earth Am I Here For? It's a great book, actually a friend gave it to me as a gift in the late 2000's and i never got to finish it.
What do you read for pleasure?
The Bible, book of Proverbs and Psalms to be precise
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My phone, an android
Describe your desk
I love keeping it neat all day, it keeps me focus BUT the storm do rises every now and then and things get messy
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
Bauchi State, in Nigeria (West Africa): I was born 11th April, 1981 just two months after my parents got separated, spent first ten years of my life there, later left to join my dad then came back to the same town after a decade to run my degree program in Architecture. Had a lot of experience there and learned lots of lessons too. I also discovered my purpose in that town
What's the story behind your latest book?
Well, i am currently working on a fictional novel titled 'Anna the human' it's an adventure story of how Anna, a beautiful young woman was kidnapped by a barbarian few days before the earth was covered by water. She later learned that she had to trust her kidnapper in order to survive what befalls upon the earth.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Life motivates me every now and then, but i want to make the world a better place in the little way i can. for the sake of the children...they deserve the best life can give
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Pouring that story out of me, also while writing i discover many hidden secrets locked up inside of me and bringing them out is like fetching honey
What do your fans mean to you?
They mean the world to me! i want to please them in any way i can
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Let me step out and make today the day i look at the better things tomorrow will bring
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I am a recording artist, an architect and a search and rescue officer with the national emergency management agency in my country, i can't stay idle...i will lose it and go insane. If i am not writing, i will be in the studio writing songs and or recording. I love being busy and keeping my mind occupied with whatever i feel will make the next person feel hopeful
