Interview with Romeo D. Matshaba

When did you first start writing?
Truth be told, the first time I truly wrote a few words on paper was shortly after a break up with a beautiful mermaid, a soul whom had been my past, my future and everything in between.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I guess all aspects of writing, from the inception of an idea to the readers awe, fascinate me greatly. But perhaps beyond that, I find bliss in the multi-layered idea of creating written beauty from nothingness. It conceives an exceptional feeling.
What's the story behind your latest book, "The Romantic Dreamer"?
I believe this to be my greatest work, it took me my entire life to write it (in some way or another). This novel reveals the truth behind why we seldom find happiness in the heart of one person, why we should go through pain, woe and suffering before we meet the one we are born to meet.
What do your fans mean to you?
They are the reason I do what I do... why I strive with each bone, breath and sinew I have to be the best I can possibly be. In short, they mean everything to me.
What are you working next?
My next project is a screenplay titled "LOVE AND A DREAM", it is essentially about how when lovers who were never meant to love fall in love in a strange reality - a dream. Where they constantly struggle with that which they do not know.
Lastly, where did you grow up, and how does this influence your writing?
Like varied flowers, I believe God plants us where he believes we will grow best. For me, perchance he was bored, cause he made an experiment - to plant me in all possible conditions. The scorching desert and the lush tropical forest... but this day, I realize it was precisely what was required to mend me into what some say, the last romantic writer.

The book is a composition of masters; masters that intentionally or otherwise, transcended language. These masters breathed poetry through their lips, and in turn, gave us a language of the Gods. The road as I will show is not a single lonely road of giants, but rather, speckled versions of roads – convergent upon truth. A single contradictory truth named poetry.
