Interview with Rondori Gozaimashita

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a steel town, among working people. There were the descendants of Chicanos, Southern Europeans, Eastern Europeans, and several different religions. Protestant Anglos were a minority and I learned that you had to be open to other world views, if only to stay out of stupid fights you couldn't win.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I wanted to write and illustrate Erotica that I couldn't in regular publishing.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing almost as soon as I could write. Mostly war and adventure stories in grade school, Sci-fi in junior and high school. History, economics and social science in college and professionally.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I loved the Firefly TV series and felt that it deserved a longer life and the characters should have more adventures. I also wanted to bring in my own studies of Daoist and Tantric sex practices. I only regret that I had to censor my illustrations for the book.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
To spin a tale that interests me and have the characters take over the narative
What do your fans mean to you?
They are the people I am telling the story to and who I hope to make the story come alive.
What are you working on next?
Year of the Cat
Four damaged souls in search of redemption during Ramadan in Kairouan, Tunisia in the year of the cat (1975 in the Vietnamese lunar calendar) The general theme is that faith, love, passion and healthy doses of sex can help in spiritual redemption and to heal the scars of war and discrimination. It is also the mirror image of the hell described in Sartre's “No Exit” in that each character is in love with a person who desires another. The difference is that they all care about and support each other.
Who are your favorite authors?
Neil Gaiman, Neal Stephenson, George R.R. Martin, Roger Zelazny, Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clark, Arthur Miller, Anaïs Nin, and Jessica Amanda Salmonson.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My cat won't let me sleep.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Figure drawing, Iaiado, Aikido, Yoga and reading
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Google, Literotica and Smashwords.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, a WW1 fighter pilot story I wrote in 5th grade.
What is your writing process?
Longhand on legal pad-then Open Office on my laptop.
