Interview with James Rondinone

How do you approach cover design?
I hold a competition. I have three contacts, two of which I found on line, and my daughter. I send them an introduction, title, and back cover summary of my book. Each receives $100.00 up front. After I receive each of the sample covers I take a survey to determine which one a potential buyer would gravitate toward. I notify who the winner is by email. The winner is further contracted to produce an entire wrap (front and back cover design).
What are your five favorite books, and why?
There is one that resonates with me called "Battlefield of the Mind" by Joyce Meyer. As my books are in the spiritual genre this book has helped me tremendously in my walk with God.
What do you read for pleasure?
Since I love writing on various biblical topics I would say the King James Bible.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
This has been a struggle for me. One marketing strategy that I came up with is to place the front cover design of my book on the front of a postcard. On the back I include the back cover summary, some on the on-line places where the book can be purchased, my name, email, and website address along with a place to write in the name and address of where the postcard is being sent.
Describe your desk
My desk contains a computer, printer, and keyboard. Nearby is a bulletin board and a shelving area for some of my books, envelopes, postage, etc.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Worcester, Ma. It was there when I had a spiritual encounter in 1977. This set the stage for me to find a church where I could learn about what the Christian Life was all about.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing books in 2011.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book is entitled "Do We Know WHY We Believe WHAT We Believe?" I would call this an instructional book on three biblical topics of TITHING, ETERNAL SECURITY, and TONGUES. I have always found that there has been much contention in the church concerning these topics. So, I decided to present a teaching on each of them from opposing views with the hope that this will reinforce a view that one already espouses while allowing them to understand more fully the contrary view so that when a discussion ensues hopefully the atmosphere will be one of respectfully willing to agree to disagree.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy in writing for me is in providing answers for fellow Christians in regard to growing spiritually and for unbelievers in helping them find the one true God.
What do your fans mean to you?
Fans or readers are those who appreciate what was written and express such. This provides me with validation that what I have written has impacted their life in a positive way.
What are you working on next?
I am currently working on a book entitled "YOU ARE A CHRISTIAN. NOW, WHAT?" This book is written to help Christians understand what their Christian life is all about.
Who are your favorite authors?
Joyce Meyer, Smith Wigglesworth, and Bill Wiese.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I look forward to starting out my day with prayer, reminding myself of pertinent scriptures, and hopefully being filled with the Holy Spirit.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love watching football, taking long walks with my wife, and playing with our two dogs.
What is your writing process?
For me prayer is a vital component in the writing process. Whether I am asking God for a particular topic to write on or for further information once the title has been formulated I usually receive a spark whether it be by a scripture being recalled to my mind, by something that a fellow believer has said or by what I have heard in a biblical teaching.
