What are your five favorite books, and why?

Janette Oke: The Centurion's wife
Joel C Rosenberg: The last Jihad
What do you read for pleasure?
Popular Mechanics
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Word of mouth & Facebook
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I was born in Durban, but completed my schooling career at Stanger Manor Secondary.
My young adult life or married life was done in Gauteng, South Africa. I was born extremely poor, and this taught me to appreciate the value of handwork, and sharing the experience with five other siblings, taught me to persevere.
When did you first start writing?
Started drafts in 1996, during stolen moments when I was not busy working or raising my daughter, and my newborn son. Put the drafts away, but eventually had the courage to publish my first book, entitled Beautiful, and now The Big Move.
What's the story behind your latest book?
This is adapted from an actual life experience. I learnt what it means when children are uprooted, and have to leave behind a world that they have created for themselves. It is heartbreaking to watch broken friendships, but also so rewarding in seeing the curiosity that builds within them. Children are resilient, and so adaptable. They love adventures.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Resources or the lack thereof. Being a contractual author, with your very own publicist, requires you to have enough finances. Being an Independent or self-published one affords me the opportunity of utilising avenues that we tend to overlook. The desire for my writings to be read, is what prompted me to simply, self-publish.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I really need to understand this, simply because I am still experiencing difficulties setting up, and managing my profile. Based on those difficulties, what exposure am I really getting? I love their website that was created for me.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Experiencing that feeling of self-accomplishment.
What do your fans mean to you?
Friends and family? Well, everything.
What are you working on next?
Another children's book.
