Interview with Ruby Knight

Describe your desk
Covered in books, pictures, and my Macbook. Books currently on my desk: To Kill a Mockingbird, Greek Myths, Vampire Academy (I just got it back from a friend), and Divergent. I also have signed copies of Matched by Ally Condie and Everneath by Brodi Ashton sitting by my laptop.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I am from San Diego, but I grew up in Utah. My childhood molded me, so it plays a part in all of my writing. I try to sneak in my own personal experiences and personality into some of my characters. So by default, my characters are all a part of me.
When did you first start writing?
Officially in High School as a member of the News Paper Staff. I have always written stories though, I have a wildly vivid imagination. I wrote my first novel in three weeks in 2011.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Heroes meets Alias for Young Adult.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Writing is my outlet. I used to be a dancer, so I could express my creativity that way. Now as a mom and University graduate, I express myself through fiction.
What are you working on next?
A contemporary YA that is about a high school that loves basketball and their team, the love lives and drama that go along with the beauty there.
Who are your favorite authors?
Veronica Roth, Taheri Mafi, Suzanne Collins, JR Ward, Jennifer Armentrout
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My son and husband. They rock.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
With my boys. Drinking Diet Coke with Vanilla in it. Pretending to work a 9-5.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
All sorts of ways. Apple bookstore, Nook, Amazon, Smashwords, Word of Mouth.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I don't, but my Mom swears she has a copy of it at her house. I will have to go on a hunt for it!
