Interview with Rashawnda Ungerer

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Baltimore, Maryland where I was heavily influenced by the novel, The Hunt for Red October, written by fellow Baltimorean Tom Clancy.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing at about 10 or 11 after taking a literature class in middle school.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The best part about writing for me is creating the characters. I enjoy watching their lives unfold beneath my fingertips.
Who are your favorite authors?
Maya Angelou, Jane Austen, and Vince Flynn to name a few.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Finishing whatever manuscript I'm working on is a major motivator to start my day. Just like a reader, I need to know how the story will end.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I spend a lot of time with my incredible husband and my 3 amazing kids. I also play rec soccer and I read as much as I can.
Describe your desk
My desk is my lap. And sometimes it can be extended to my bed, couch or coffee table.
