Interview with Sadey Quinn

What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Two things, depending on the mood and my morning:

(a) Writing. I love waking up early and writing while the sun comes up. I make coffee, have some breakfast, and dive into a story; it's one of my favorite things to do.

(b) The Gym. If I'm up early enough, I'll write before heading to the gym. Some days, I go there straight away--it's just down the street, so it's perfect. I get sweaty, I lift weights, I contemplate, listen to music, run, jump, play. Working out activates my brain, and makes me think creatively. It makes such a great start to a day.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I read a lot, but that's par for the course. I also enjoy cooking. Nearly all of my meals are homemade--from veggie curries and soups, to turkey burgers, to chicken and salad, to salmon with a nice side. I love making food with fresh ingredients, and keeping meals simple and wholesome.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Often, through recommendations from friends. A pal will read a book, love it, and let me know. Even better is when a friend specifically thinks of me while they're reading the book--then I know I'm gonna enjoy it!
How do you approach cover design?
I design most of my covers. I like keeping it simple, and keeping it sexy. My favorite cover to date is for 'Bad Girl Good'. I think the model is super hot, and it didn't take much to make her really pop in that cover!
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My Kindle! I also read books on my phone, and my computer, but the Kindle--without a backlight--is definitely my fave.
Describe your desk
I either work in my bed, or at my counter, or out at a cafe or bar. I'm constantly moving--very kinesthetic thinker--so I don't work at a specific desk all the time. My desk is my laptop, it goes where I go, always ready to crank out a new story!
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I tried it, and I sold a book!

The day after I published 'Under Order' on Smashwords, I tentatively checked the website and saw I'd *actually* sold a copy. I was so thrilled that someone might read my story, that I kept writing. Then, getting feedback from readers about how much they've enjoyed some of my books, that really keeps me going.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Two things: The surprises--when I'm writing and really "in the zone", and all of the sudden my characters are doing something I hadn't planned or anticipated. I love that, it keeps me on my toes.

The other thing I love is hearing from readers. Sometimes my books and blog have a really positive impact on someone's life. I never imagined that could happen, when I first started writing, and I'm humbled by it.
