Interview with Salih Seckin Sevinc

How did you decide to write the book?
I was the Agency President of a digital agency called DahaBaska and I had a lot of experiences in the field. I read so many technical books about social media marketing but they were not mainly focused on the 'human factor'. All of them were going after the numbers. (Getting more likes and followers etc.) So I stopped and asked my self "What is 'real' about social media and how does it effect people with their marketing efforts?" I started to write my book and explained everything honestly considering loosing my customers (And I lost them) This book is a real life experience.

It has so many things to say to both social media experts and the new beginners!
When did you start writing "Social Media for Real"?
I started writing in the beginning of 2012. After 10.000 words, I stucked. Then waited for 6 months to pass and started over again. It took 2,5 months to finish the book. My publishing house found me. This was again the miracle of social media and I wrote this in my book also. Now the Turkish version of the book is on the way to its' 3rd edition.
What motivated you to translate the book in English?
I was getting so many positive reviews about the book. All my friends and the people who read the book couraged me to translate the book in English. I found a translator and get the drafts in English. Then I started to search about e-publishing. Here I am now! Very happy with my choice. This is very challenging and exciting.
What are you working on next?
Now I am working on my second book "The Core of Social Media". I will not mention the exact name of the new book, but it's about getting deeper in social media marketing and understanding the basics of it. Because today, I see that the tools and the goals were all mixed up! Someone has to mention that.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I was in the primary school and I buyed a type writer. My first writings were short fictions about history. Then I started to write a novel but that was an epic fail. (I remember that I wrote 70 pages though) But that was a very spirited start. Years passed. I lost my passion for writing with all the business activities and the efforts for living. At the year 2012, I found my notes to future me! One of them was telling me to start writing again and...
What do you read for pleasure?
Fiction. Haruki Murakami takes me to somewhere else these days. Anthropology, Philosophy, Art. These are the other subjects that I read about.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
iPad and iPhone
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
A landing page for the book, using social media and creating the buzz!
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Writing saves me!
