Interview with Sandra Easter

Published 2014-10-07.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Doing art, reading, or spending time with my kids (three crazy boys).
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I search for books on amazon and read the description. If it sounds interesting I'll try it. Or, if someone recommends something I'll try it. Thus making my reading list VERY large.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Incarnate. Yes. I just don't remember the first poem I wrote. That's how I started.
What is your writing process?
I write like I'm reading the story. I never really know where the story is going at first but the characters lead me where they want to go.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I can remember the first story I fell in love with. Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare. It was the first time I ever read anything that kept my attention. I was in the 5th grade at the time and hated to read. From then on out I started to read, selectively, until I turned 23. Then I couldn't stop.
How do you approach cover design?
I imagine what I want people to see when they look at my cover. What I want the cover to portray about my book at first glance and then either tell my cousin (a photographer) or make it myself.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Tiger's Curse Series, Immortal Instruments Series, Morganville Vampire Series, Bloodlines Series, and Vampire Academy Series. (I know that is more than 5 books but you can' t just pick one book out of a series.)
What do you read for pleasure?
Anything that is fantasy.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Kindle or my phone.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
None so far. I am so busy I don't have enough time to put into my marketing as I would like.
Describe your desk
Organized mess with things I love.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I have grown up all over as I haven't lived anywhere for more than five years until recently. This has given me a broad choices for scenery.
When did you first start writing?
When I was in middle school. I would write poetry to express pent up feelings.
