Interview with Sandra R. Shupe

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Ogden, Utah, a small town north of Salt Lake City. I am a member of the predominate religion here, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, better known as Mormons. We believe in an eternal existence and we seek happiness in this life and the next. The reassurance that happiness is possible led me to find the tools I write about in my book.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I don't remember the first book I read but I do remember reading under the covers with a flashlight when my parents thought I was sleeping. It was my first act of disobedience. Reading is still one of my greatest pleasures.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Depression is very common. As friends and family shared with me their struggles, I wanted to help. The book is purposely small and it pulls together the most effective methods of overcoming this debilitating challenge. The worksheets focus on developing actual tools that enable a different response to the helplessness and anguish of depression.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I want to make these tools available to a wide audience at an affordable price. I further support my readers with a website that shares additional perspectives on depression and overcoming its pain.
