Interview with Sarai Legend

When did you first start writing?
I started writing shortly after I knew how to form sentences. In 4th grade, my school had a station where you could create your own book. I wrote my own fantasy story about a horse and a girl. The teacher at the station 'bound' the book and make it look as professional as it gets for a 10-year-old.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I've always wanted to be an author. Almost everyone likes to read, and I want to share my ideas with the world.
What's the story behind your latest book?
It's kind of funny. I was trying to find some ghost-writing jobs on oDesk when I found an erotica job from a foreign client. There was poor communication the entire time I was working on it, and it took me two weeks to get an answer from them. They didn't want it, and were not going to pay. At that point, I decided I would just publish it myself instead.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Well, I just posted my first short story on Smashwords. While I'm not suddenly making millions, I have to admit that if it weren't for Smashwords, I would probably never publish anything.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Being able to express myself. you wouldn't know it because I have diarrhea of the keyboard most of the time, but I'm extremely shy in real life, and can't express myself well without the use of pen, paper, or a computer. It's always been like that.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans are great. Having even one fan lets me know I'm doing something right, at least for someone. I'm still just starting out, but any fans I have give me the ability and the cause to continue doing what I'm doing.
What are you working on next?
Well, I've got one more story to edit and publish this week, and then I will be working on the next installment of the Simona series. I can't wait.
Who are your favorite authors?
You're going to laugh, but I still think Avi (Edward Irving Wortis) is one of my favorite authors, even though it's been a long time since I've read anything from her. He wrote 'The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle" which is a young adult book. It was my favorite of mine for many years, and it truly inspired me to write what I wanted. As for more recent authors, I enjoy Terry Brooks and R.A. Salvadore and a few others in that genre.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
That's a hard question most of the time. I struggle with depression a lot. However, I would have to say my kids and my husband are what keep me going beyond the science-y answer of "because my heart is still beating and my brain won't shut off." XD
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I'm always on the computer. Even when I'm not on the computer I've got the internet strapped to my hip via tablet or phone. you should see me when I lose power, I keep trying to use things that connect to the internet, only to remember that my modem and router need electricity to work. It's pathetic.
