Interview with Sara Khan

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Writing! It lifts me up. It gives me the power of expressing my observations!
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book is How To Create Positive Change in 21 Days. Well, I had mentioned in the book as well. I was living a lazy life, yet I had so many things to achieve and there were things in my life that needed an immediate attention. I went through several books that discussed the 21-day challenges, even I read many of them which were against it too, and I completely agree. For me, if you are not willing enough to keep up the change, you will be back to your lousy self. I needed a motivation, so I started with the 21-day challenge of getting up early which helped me in forming a habit of getting much early i.e., at 4 am, and now I love being the early riser. It gives me enough time to plan my rest of the day accordingly. I had been updating my blog each day about the challenge, and once I completed it, I wanted to take it forward and help people like me who have dreams and goals but need that one push.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Being an indie author gives you control over your content, cover designs, etc. I'm associated with online media and content. Becoming promoter, marketer and of course author on your own is a challenge! I accepted it!
When did you first start writing?
I started exactly from 2008 as a citizen journalist.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in India, specifically Uttar Pradesh. I had stayed in other parts of the country as well. My experiences and observations throughout help me in my writings.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. It's still there online on theviewspaper.net. I think it was published in 2009.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I prefer reading on my laptop
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
That's interesting to answer. I didn't promote my first book Separated! much, but the second one is self-help titled How To Create Positive Change in 21 Days. I want it to reach as many people so that I know that I'm now for the purpose of helping more people, especially women. It's always the word of mouth that's effective yet online presence is equally important. If you put your book on sales, it will help.
What are you working on next?
I am working on two books - fiction (first-time) and a non-fiction (self-help on relationships). I have already created outline for both and set the deadlines to complete the first draft. I'm hoping to meet the deadline too.
Who are your favorite authors?
Kahlil Gibran.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The mystery of the day that lies ahead, my books, my work and my goal!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I play sports or with children around, I cook and read too. Oh! and shopping is another favourite.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I'm quite active in the authors/writers forums on Facebook, it really helps in discovering the new authors like me. Plus the Internet gives you the liberty to explore and read ebooks in your genres.

Separated! is based on the conceptual talk and advice on how unresolved things could create a rift among couples. Instead of accepting things ‘written in fate’, Sara Khan, through the book, helps the couple realize where their relationship is taking them – forward, backwards or nowhere.
