Interview with S Brown

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
Not to disclose much about myself, because I do value my privacy and that of my families, but I grew up in a small county in Virginia not far from Richmond. My life as a child was pretty normal, I saw a lot and I did a lot, and that is what I go to when I'm writing.
When did you first start writing?
Let my friends tell it when I came out of the womb, but to be perfectly honest, I was writing at a very young age. I had my second grade teacher pay me $.40 for ice cream for short stories that I would write. I loved to write, and I had sort of fell out of the habit when I became older, but when I got back into it, I did so with a vengenance!
What's the story behind your latest book?
Which one? I'm working on two at the moment, plus I have ideas for a fourth one. The follow-up to ALL I NEED... will be Jacob & Coco, which tells the story of those two. Yes, they do get married, but unfortunately, they do not live happily ever after. They lose each other due to some events, and the story focuses on how they try to get back to each other- if they get back to each other.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Rejection! I don't deal with it well, and I wanted my work out there, so I did a little research, and I finally decided to just go with it. It's a learning experience, I will tell you that, but I am enjoying it.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords does the work I don't care to do. It mirrors the publisher, and I really appreciate an outlet where I can be creative and my work can be seen.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Checking it off my bucket list! I always said I would write a book, and I did and I got it out there!
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans mean that someone out there, be it one person or a million, saw my work and appreciates it. I thank each and every one of you who have purchased my book, it means so much to me!

Who are your favorite authors?
ZANE! Love her, she is so real. I also love Keisha Ervin, Kiki Swinson, Ashley and Jaquavis... the list goes on and on. Now who has influenced me? I would be a liar if I didn't name Judy Blume, Roald Dahl, Beverly Clearly, Alex Haley, and all those writers who penned those great Harlequinn Romances I used to sneak and read as a child. I have so many favorites and influences, it's impossible to mention them all.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My family. My son and my husband. Enough said.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Working and developing a relationship with my son. Oh and shopping.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
What looks appealing to me is what interests me. If the cover is attractive, if the reviews are mostly positive, if I follow the author, there are so many other factors too. Price is a big one!
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
No, but I bet my 2nd grade teacher does!
