Interview with Scott Cimarusti

When did you first start writing?
I dabbled in writing in college. Back then, I was just jotting down ideas--not really writing anything. Which is probably not the worst thing, because I imagine very few of my ideas from that time period were all that original.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
The realization that becoming a traditionally published author is the equivalent of winning the lottery. That, and seeing books in bookstores "written" by the cast of "Jersey Shore".
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
It's helped me reach a non-amazon audience--which is extremely valuable.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Immersing myself in the alternate realities I create. Pure escapism. The fun of solving the problems I create for myself.
What do your fans mean to you?
Since most of them are friends of mine, they mean a great deal--with their support and encouragement. Yet there is also something extremely gratifying about meeting strangers who have somehow managed to find your books--even if they aren't necessarily fans; at least they took the time to read what you wrote.
What are you working on next?
Concluding the "Last Archer" series in a manner that I hope satisfies my few loyal readers--not to mention my harshest critic: me.
Who are your favorite authors?
Stephen King, Ray Bradbury, Edgar Allan Poe, Jules Verne.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The hope that my muse will find me.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Working full time, parenting my three kids, teaching myself to play the guitar, teaching myself Italian, reading, taking my dog for walks, and occasionally golfing.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Smashwords, Goodreads, and amazon.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, it was a Hardy Boys-esque story I wrote in fourth grade. It won an award.
What is your writing process?
Finding time whenever I can when the house is quiet enough for me to string together a few coherent thoughts. Once I've started a project, I like to go back and revisit and revise what I've already written to tap into that momentum.
