Interview with Cori Ferguson

Published 2014-10-27.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has given me the opportunity to publish my short novel, which has allowed me to get my name and story out to the public. In turn, because of the amount of positive feedback I've received, I am now working on a 2nd, full-length book.
What are you working on next?
I'm currently working on my 2nd, full-length book called The Human Side. It is a sequel to New Beginnings. The book will obviously continue to follow the paths of the characters lives, but this one will be more focused on the character of Shawn and the scars that the experiences in her life have caused. The title was inspired by my best friend's song of the same name.
Who are your favorite authors?
Radclyffe and really any author that can write a well-written, authentic story. I love to read.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My son. It's funny how being a parent changes your life. My world revolves around him and he's got me wrapped around his finger.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I spend my time with my family, which includes my partner and our 3 year old son and also 4 animals. We also love spending time with our best friends, Summer & Lori Osborne. Summer is an independent recording artist and we love to support other independent LGBT musicians.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Like any other person! I use Google for a lot of things, but I also "troll" ebook sites and I watch my Twitter feeds. I also from time to time, get links to them from other author's on my Twitter account.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Not with any clarity. I used to be a contributing writer to an erotica board on AOL back in the day when AOL was IT! That was a lifetime ago.
What is your writing process?
I have an annoying habit of going back and re-reading what I've already written when I sit down to read. It helps me get back "in the moment" so that I can authentically portray the emotions I'm looking to. It's annoying because it can take quite awhile to get back through it AND I tend to get stuck correcting typos!
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I don't remember the first story, but I do remember the first story by Radcylffe that I read. It made me realize how much I missed writing and that I wanted to get back in to it.
How do you approach cover design?
I'm more of an analytical mind, than an artistic mind so I generally have a friend help so has a background in it.
What do you read for pleasure?
A vast array of things, but mainly I read other lesbian romance books or anything historical. I'm a huge history buff, especially the Civil War and World War II. I was a history major in college for the first 2 years.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I use multiple ones, I have a Nook HD, but I also use my iPhone to read iBooks and I have the Kindle app downloaded on my Droid phone and my Nook. :) I like diversity and choices!
