Interview with Genieve Dawkins

What is your e-reading device of choice?
My smartphone for reading on-the-go, in bed and in tight spaces, and my laptop for reading drafts of my work and pretty much everything else.
Describe your desk
What desk? I'm notorious for using my lap, the floor, my lap...
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in idyllic rural Jamaica and the scenery from my childhood is the backdrop of works such as Opoponax Dreams, Reves Opoponax 69 and my soon to be released novel, Nothing.
When did you first start writing?
I've been writing for as long as I can remember. I was born a writer, maybe? It's like fire shut up within my bones.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I'm in the final stages of my novel, Nothing, at the moment and it's a big story based on my reminiscing on life, death and the Book of Revelations ( The Revelation of St. John the Divine) in the Bible.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I love the freedom that comes with independence, especially since I work heavily with experimental writing forms. You can't sit on the cutting edge without freedom.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Saying something. Creating many things.
What are you working on next?
I'm focusing on finishing my novel, Nothing, at the moment, but I have a few screenplays that I'm planning to convert to novels as upcoming projects. I'm also planning a documentary or two in the back of my mind as I sit here typing this, as I'm ready to explore new creative outlets. There's a lot going on, so look out for them!
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Jesus and the work He has commissioned me here on earth. I must work the work of Him who sent me while it is day, for the night cometh when no man can work.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I run a farm, Eden Lily, and the adorable animals take up most of my time. Who knew animals took so much work? Help! LOL

I spend the rest of my time focusing on work projects and church/evangelizing as well as spending time in the great outdoors.
