When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I enjoyed teaching as a cosmetology instructor motivating my studentsto be great no matter what their future goals maybe
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
yes it was called the 5th season it is a book of four short stories. each story begins with a poem. The poems are played out through stories of how the characters triumph over their domestic violence situations
What is your writing process?
I believe I have a gift to write the stories come to me like a dream as I see the story I'm able to write it down writing becomes exciting because sometimes I don't know what's going to happen next myself
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah I was able to relate to this character because she had a determination to survive
What do you read for pleasure?
I am a true history buff I love to read history books articles regarding history I even love the History Channel
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
social media not only are you able to express your feelings and emotions but you get instant feedback on how other people feel about your work
Describe your desk
I'm not your conventional writer I love to sit in the comforts of my bed with my laptop in my lap and get lost in my work
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a small town called Everett Washington we lived on a big piece of land I spent most of my time alone and I was able to tap into my creative side and let my imagination run free
When did you first start writing?
After my divorce in 2000 I was in an abusive relationship.I was able to find my voice and heal through writing
What's the story behind your latest book?
The original name for the book was called Beauty School Blues I started writing it because I was working in a beauty school dealing with students and their struggles and from that I was able to transform it into a novel
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I find joy in giving people a birds eye view of the stories that are in my mind. Through my characters you're able to understand why they made the choices they made maybe they were by choice or maybe it was by destiny either way you're able to connect with them and feel emotions for them as you take the journey with them through the story
