Interview with Shana Gorian

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA in the 1970's and 80's in a comfortable, middle class household. I had so much freedom and so many opportunities to grow my imagination on a daily basis, playing outdoors with the kids in my neighborhood, climbing trees, building club houses, running through the woods. My stories certainly evoke that sense of freedom, which is so much harder for kids to come by these days. But my hope is that kids get that sense of freedom and possibility from my books.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Amazon Marketing Services ads, posting on Twitter, offering a free ebook for subscribing to my email list
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Kindle App on my Ipad
When did you first start writing?
I've loved writing all of my life. I was the writing editor for my high school yearbook and I was a writing major in college with a focus on journalism. But I formally started writing fiction (and really, since childhood, writing fiction for the first time) in 2013 when I began writing the first Rosco the Rascal book.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing, for me, is sharing the world that's inside my head with others. It's a great world!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not writing, I'm usually busy with my own family, but not all of that is fun and games. I'm driving my kids to their extracurricular activities or doing housework or cooking. But when I get time to relax, I like to read books, watch TV dramas and documentaries, go hiking, and get some exercise at the gym or while walking my dog (the 'real' Rosco)!
