Interview with Sharon King

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
It would be exploring new worlds and the people in them, when I get an idea I buzz all over and can't wait to get started.
What do your fans mean to you?
It means that they are on the same wavelength and have come along for the ride with me.
What are you working on next?
The Vampire Chaser; it's about a modern day, feisty woman who is chasing down the vampires that took her twin sister. She struggles between her obsession, her differences and the world around her.
Who are your favorite authors?
Stephen King, Stephanie Meyer, Dean Koontz, Terry Pratchett
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Life and making the most of it; you never know who or what might be out there to give you a buzz.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I enjoy watching films, reading, walking, computer games, currently playing Burnout Paradise or Halo
What is your writing process?
Get an idea from either of us (we do have an A4 book full of book, screenplays and poem ideas, synopsis and inspiring or new words)
Do a list of how we want the story to evolve to create the chapters and give a start middle and end
Do a couple of lines for the body of each chapter idea
Tweak the chapters
Write in full
Read through and self edit or embellish
Read through to my co writer and adjust where needed.
Read through again out loud, usually needs a couple more tweaks
Read through again
If totally happy, publish
Then keep your fingers crossed that other people enjoy it as much as we enjoyed creating it.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
It was probably The Hobbit by JJR Tolkein. I was lost in the story and the world you could create with words. I got it from the local library and would read a book over the next day or two and then get another one.
How do you approach cover design?
Look at the covers of similar book types, take photos, paint, draw, compile to make something that fits the story and hopefully looks interesting. Usually takes several attempts to get something we both feel fits the bill.
What do you read for pleasure?
Anything and everything; books, newspapers, info pages like Wikipedia
Describe your desk
Neat to begin with then gradually gets cluttered with bits of paper and cups of tea, gets cleared again to start the next day afresh
When did you first start writing?
As a child, was always writing poems, or short stories for my own entertainment if nothing else.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Looked at publishing traditionally but all they seemed to want was your money. Felt self publishing gave more control over your work and productivity rate.
