Interview with Sheila L. Jackson

What motivated you to become an indie author?
I wanted to write Contemporary Christian Romance that depicts real life. Most publishing companies want their authors to stray from taboo subject matters in their books, but that's not real life. I want to write about the good, the bad, and the ugly side of life and create characters that are believable.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has place my book before a whole new reading audience that I could not reach alone.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I love when readers contact me to say how my books have touched their lives and made them want to become a better person.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans are my motivation. When I want to give up on writing, I go back and read one of their encouraging letters of how my books have helped them through their life challenges.
What are you working on next?
My second Contemporary Christian Romance novel, Joi and Payne will be released in early 2016. I don't want to spill the beans, but the characters are a nurse and fireman.
Who are your favorite authors?
ReShonda Tate Billingsley, Victoria Christopher Murray, Nora Roberts, Liz Talley, Brenda Jackson, Lenora Worth, Shelia Goss, Victor McGolthin, and the list goes on.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My zest for life. I love to see what each day will bring.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love going to the movies and spending time with my husband and two daughters.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
By word of mouth or strolling through sites where e-books are sold.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, The Enemy Within
What is your writing process?
I like to think about what I am going to write, then I jot down my notes.
