Interview with L. L. Shelby

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The joy I get from writing is unexplainable. While I'm writing, I'm crying, I'm laughing, I get mad, I get excited for my characters and the highs and lows of their journey. I put in all of my emotion into each scene of my book, in hopes that my readers will cry, laugh, get mad and get excited for my characters as well.
What do your fans mean to you?
Fans are everything. They hold the success of anyone trying to be a somebody. I love my fans and I greatly appreciate all their feedback. It definitely helps make me grow as a writer.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My family. I love being a mom and a wife. I make sure everyone else is taken care of first, then it's my time. That's when I'll resume to the book I'm reading or write down the sentence that has come to me, for the book I'm currently working on.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I am always looking for new books. I go onto Apple's iBooks, and do a search for the theme of books I like. Also, I will do a search for the author's that I like to see if they have anything new that I haven't read yet.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The book that brought me into the world of reading addiction is RaeAnne Thayne's Dancing in the Moonlight. It made me feel all the emotions a great book should. I felt as though I was watching it and not reading it. I was so real and exciting. I still go back to that book from time to time.
How do you approach cover design?
I think of my characters, how they look, what they do in the book and what scene from my book I want to show, to catch the readers eye.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Currently that is my iPhone. I'm looking to upgrade my reading device to an iPad shortly.
Who are your favorite authors?
I have so many. A very short list would be Elizabeth Lennox, Belle Andre, Kristina Cook, Sophie Seacrest, Lana Williams, Kelsey MacBride, Sydney Landon, Lucy Kevin, Eve Carter, Willow Summers. These are amazing writers and creators who put me on the edge of my seat, wanting to know what happens next. Sadly, like I said, this is a very short list.
What is your writing process?
I usually will get a scene or a sentence in my sleep, then I wake up and it's an ah ha moment. Or, while I'm writing one book, a sentence comes to me that won't work in my current book, so I'll write it down and save it for the next one. I know it sounds strange but that is how all my books have started. There have been times when I've worked on three different books at once because I've had so many different ideas come to for each book. Some may think it's overwhelming, I find it exciting.
Describe your desk
Sadly, my actual desk is in the basement and not very creative. Thankfully, I type on a laptop and therefore my desk is wherever I am. I love writing out on my back deck. I listen to the chirping birds as I drink my tea or a nice glass of wine.
