Interview with Sherry Jackson

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I have been writing or telling stories since as early as I can remember---. On that stays in my mind is the one about Titled The Blue Room. My grand-father lived in an brick mansion in the south-we lived on his land. There was one room as a child that no-one was allowed in-when one day the little girl sneak into to find it a beautiful luxurious decorated in blue. It was also her grand-dads bed and sitting room.
What is your writing process?
I can be reading a book and suddenly there is something in it that takes me to one of my stories in my head, immediately I am transformed to my story and began writing on it. When a story want to be told it totally takes over my every thought until it is complete.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Rebecca! A haunting lovely story about a mansion and his former mistress-taken over by the new wife who felt totally not able to fit. I knew that was the kind of stories that I wanted to write-romance, mysterious, suspenseful with happy resolve.
How do you approach cover design?
I have an image in my head regarding my story-I go in search of it in art galleries etc. Once I find the artist with my story- I buy the painting or ask to use it for my cover.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Reviews can get your story out there. I also use word of mouth, one person read and they tell another. My book is also in print so they are in certain book stores and I send them out to them to see if would like to put in bookstores.
Describe your desk
My dest has a computer with changing decorations on it-according how I feel-fall flowers, candles etc. My files are separate in flowered boxes for each story.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in the south-free barefoot and full of dreams about fairies, where ever my imagination could take me. The trees were my friends and each day a different person or place. My oldest sister loved literature and give me the opportunity to read good classic books.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smash words has allowed me to go where I could not go before-my stories are put out to the public to allow them to judge if like or not-not have to go though the gate keepers.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Bring hope to others and sharing a common bond as human beings.
