Interview with Vasilios P Vergakis

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I spend most of my time either relaxing on my balcony or sketching.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Mostly from what I adore the most, which is science fiction. I'm a big Star Trek-Star Wars fan. Also, vampires/werewolves are always great too.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, I did. It was originally 'The Adventures of Bashe & Cashe". It consisted of a male (Bashe) and female (Cashe) duo. Bashe's character is similar to his character in my novels. Cashe's character is a rich female who's lifestyle is far beyond what Bashe's taste is like. Eventually, I had to drop Cashe and keeping the original story with a few modifications, it became the Jake Bashe series.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
My first story I read was The Shining back in High School in 1983. From that point on, I had a secret love interest, which was reading.
How do you approach cover design?
Being a big comic book collector, you tend to have a vivid imagination after awhile. It comes naturally to me after knowing the outline of the story itself.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Wow, it's hard to narrow it down to five. Since I'm a Star Trek-Star Wars fan, do you know how many books there are? Next question.
What do you read for pleasure?
Mostly magazines of either Men's Interest or Media.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
The Nook.
Describe your desk
It's a bed tray. I love it. I can spend most of my day and not realize how many hours have passed.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Astoria, New York. If a place like New York City doesn't inspire you, I don't know what will.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
My love to read. Since I've been reading for well over twenty years, I decided to give it a shot and go for it. At first, it was an adventure. Finding out how to make new paragraphs, the character's profile, their interaction between each other (friends, lovers, enemies) and I think the most important factor of them all (in my book): ending the chapter with a cliff-hanger so have to turn the page and find out what happens next.
