Interview with S.K. Allen

What are you working on next?
I'm working on like fifty different things at any given moment. Right now I am working on mostly romantic little stories. Trying to stick to YA, but sometimes it goes beyond that. Supernatural one called Black wolf, and another called Blurred lines. An adult fitness one called Body fit, a teen pregnancy/motherhood one called Thursdays. One about growing up called like babies and pacifiers
Who are your favorite authors?
I love J.K Rowling, um there are so many, Suzanne Collins, Andrea Cremer. So many others.
What do you read for pleasure?
I love dystopian fiction right now. Scifi, women's fiction. I'm reading lots of YA because I am a youth services Librarian Assistant.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
I have a lot of favorites. They are all different to tell the truth. Why I love them, it's because it helps me with my own writing. It let's me see different points of view.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My children... Or else I'd stay in bed all day and waste my day on Facebook.
What is your writing process?
When I get an idea I have to get of to myself and I develop the movie and how I want it to end before I even start. Then I start writing and the people leap out at me and they do what they do and change the whole plot.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
No... I was like six.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I work a whole lot. I have like four jobs not including writing.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I love my nook so much I have it on my iPad and my phone lol. My iPad is huge and I'm kinda blind so... iPad.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I just get them from my nook. I like that I don't have to pay a ton to feed my habit. Therefore I spend a ton! Haha.
How do you approach cover design?
Very simply... Thank goodness I have some adeptness at it and I am a fast learner.
Describe your desk
Non existent... I don't have a desk. I should get one. I might be more comfortable. We have an awesome chair here though.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I was born in Panama, but I practically grew up in Northern Virginia (yes there is a difference). I have a wide world view. And Northern VA is extremely diverse. None of my friends were from any one place unless they were siblings... And sometimes not even then as there were so many military families. It influenced my writing because I was able to see many different points of view and motivation.
When did you first start writing?
I like to say about 26 years... But even before I could write I was making stories.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Well.. Virtual Reality came about because the World Trade Center had fallen and we were all speculating on how big this war was going to be. Then I thought about biogenetic weapons, and what it could do to earths population. Then I thought about how governments would react and what industries would survive regardless and even make big money.

Then I thought about the individuals that live in a society like that. I wrote this over ten years ago. Before I discovered dystopian fiction.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I'm quite literally a starving artist and don't have the time and money to pursue traditional publishing. And this... It's the wave of the future.
