Interview with Shant Karadjian

What do your fans mean to you?
My fans are everything. Without them, I will never be able to write full-time. They will be the foundation for my success, and equally the source of my failure. It is imperative that I create fans and keep them loyal!
What are you working on next?
I am currently working on several projects, including the sequel to my first novel Birth of Blackheart. The second novel, of which remains unnamed, will continue the tale of Shushana Godwill and the malevolent Executioners. Unlike Birth of Blackheart, its sequel will land within the Epic Fantasy genre with multiple PoVs.
Who are your favorite authors?
My favorite authors are George R. R. Martin, Tolkien, Patrick Rothfuss, Brandon Sanderson, Anthony Ryan and my great grandfather, Avedik.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Life! An optimistic mind goes a long way, trust me. :)
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
If I'm not writing, I'm usually working at Apple Computers, exercising, playing video games, out at the cinema or involved in shenanigans.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes I do. It's called Birth of Blackheart!
What is your writing process?
Excellent question; very long answer. It usually starts with a cool story concept. What am I saying? The only story I've written was created by a cool story concept, followed by the creation of the story's main character and that's it. Really, that's it. Everything you've read in Birth of Blackheart was created on the spot, as I got to it. I expect its sequels to have stricter outlines due to the complexity brought by multiple perspective characters.
What do you read for pleasure?
Anything that comes my way. I love to learn just as much as I love to train my eyes. I'm immensely interested in history.
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing in early 2013. I remember that day as if it were yesterday.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I come from a long lineage of businessmen, and I've always wanted to be an entrepreneur. Write fantasy while building your own loyal fanbase? Yes please!
